UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH, SCHOLARSHIP, AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY
The Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges believes that
fostering undergraduate research enhances learning outcomes
and student involvement. To promote this, students at COPLAC
institutions have the opportunity to present the results of their
undergraduate research at regional conferences where they can
meet and discuss their work with peers and faculty members.
Undergraduate research projects span the disciplines and afford students the prospect of intellectual engagement beyond the formal classroom setting. Outstanding projects are featured in COPLAC's online research journal Metamorphosis.
COPLAC partnered with the Teagle Foundation to facilitate both one-on-one and small group distance mentoring projects. These projects can be viewed on the COPLAC Distance Mentored Undergraduate Research page. Distance mentoring leverages the strength of the entire 30 campus consortium to offer students the range of faculty expertise more commonly associated with a large Research-1 university. COPLAC will continue offering distance mentoring opportunities for students at COPLAC campuses on a limited basis.
